Two Ribbons, Endless Gratitude

Last night, I received some incredibly exciting news — I’m honored to share that I won not just one, but two ribbons at the San Diego County Fair’s International Exhibition of Photography!

I was awarded a 1st Place ribbon for “Fragments of Yesterday” in the Cell Phone category and a 2nd Place ribbon for “Academic Echoes” in the All Things Mechanical category. I’m still processing it all!

This year’s exhibition was truly competitive, with approximately 3,400 entries from photographers around the world. Out of those, only 1,200 images were selected to hang in the fair’s stunning 10,000-square-foot gallery space. I submitted eight pieces, and was thrilled when five were accepted. To then have two of them earn ribbons? I’m beyond grateful and honestly still in awe.

But what makes this moment even more meaningful is sharing it with friends. Walking through the exhibition and seeing so many familiar names, especially those of my fellow Darkroomers Photographic Club members, filled my heart with joy. Some of my friends also earned ribbons, and I couldn’t be prouder of our community. The talent and camaraderie we share is something truly special. Being included among such a passionate and skilled group of artists is both humbling and inspiring.

Competitions like this are a reminder of why I do what I do. Photography is about more than capturing beautiful light or perfect compositions. It’s about connection, between the viewer and the subject, between the artist and their story, and between all of us who pour our hearts into this craft.

To everyone who has supported and encouraged me—thank you. Your kind words, shared enthusiasm, and creative spirit keep me going. If you’re heading to the fair this year, I hope you’ll stop by the exhibition. There are so many incredible stories hanging on those walls.
