Thoughts on turning 35

Fall in Prague | Czech Republic

In just two short days I will be closer to 40 than I am to 30.  I tend to freak out at the less-than-usual birthdays. I took turning 30 (mostly) in stride. It was 29 where I wigged out because I had only a year left of my 20’s! (See my Thoughts on turning 30 blog article written FIVE YEARS AGO!)

Now I find myself struggling a bit with 35 and thinking “where the h*!# did the last five years go?” I swear I blinked and they were gone. I have heard my grandparents, parents, aunts & uncles all comment that time speeds up the older you get. Now I’m starting to see what they mean.

Just for fun I thought I’d take a look back at how and where I spent my last five birthdays:

In 2012 I saw Allegiance: A New American Musical at The Old Globe – It is an amazing story. I’m so glad I got to see it with the original cast (i.e. George Takei & Lea Salonga)!!

In 2011 we took a drive out to Julian for some of their famous apple pie (See my original blog post here)

Julian Pie Co.

In 2010 (our last year in Sicily) we took a weekend trip to Prague (See the original blog posts here, here, here, here & here – I took A LOT of photos in Prague)

In 2009 my best friend left Sicily and moved back to the States on my birthday. That was a bummer, but to ease the suffering she & I took a trip to Rome a couple of weeks before she left so that was great fun! (To read more click through to my original blog posts part 1, part 2, & part 3)

In 2008 I turned 30 and celebrated with a great dinner at my favorite agriturismo in Sicily (Borgo Antico) with a group of close friends and then took a trip to Rome the following weekend. (Read more about that trip in the original blog post)

I love looking back at where my travels have taken me. Its a great reminder that I’ve been particularly busy the last five years.

Tomorrow we head out for my 35th birthday getaway. My hubbie knows that my favorite birthday gifts are trips so we are headed up to the Temecula wine country. It’ll be great to get away and hang out in the vineyards for a couple of days.

I doubt I’ll be posting much until we return…see you on the other side! :-D
