Thirty Days of Thanksgiving | Day 22

Today, as I was searching for a few old photos to reprocess using the new Photomatix Pro 5, I came across this:
I captured this image from the driver’s seat of my car (though the windshield) as I was heading out to photograph a particular building that I’d driven past many times. (I’ll share a few of those tomorrow, perhaps). I had taken a left out of the gate of our military housing complex. The barbed wire fencing on the left marks the perimeter. My home was just beyond that fence..and I wish I could turn my head a bit in this photo and see it.
The scene I captured is so familiar, even though its been nearly three years (three years!!!) since I moved back to the States. This particular stretch of road, heading toward the town of Mineo (up on the hill in the distance), the geep (mixed herd of goats and sheep), and the breathtaking sky all whisper “home” to me.
I miss it there. SO. VERY. MUCH.
On that note…today I am thankful for:
- The opportunity to have lived overseas. It was unforgettable and changed me in ways I cannot describe.
- The friendships I formed while living in Sicily
- The friend (who I met in Sicily) who lives nearby and who met me for a bit of shopping and coffee this afternoon. Those pockets of time are the best!
What are you thankful for today?
