Thirty Days of Thanksgiving | Day 4

Heron Egret | Sunrise | Morro Bay, CA | California Photo Festival | Thirty Days of Thanksgiving

To the best of my knowledge and Google/Wikipedia research this is an Great Egret (also known as a Great White Heron). I captured this photo in the rain at sunrise (we had beautiful pink light in the distance, but rain pouring around us) during a class with Juan Pons at the California Photo Festival.

It was probably a comical sight – 10 or so photographers with very expensive gear and really long lenses getting soaking wet and doing everything keep the cameras and lenses dry. I had a plastic grocery bag over my camera and a large garden size trash bag covering both the camera and lens. By the time I got back to the car I was soaked, but the camera was safe. Isn’t that what counts? :-D

This image was captured with an Induro AKB1 Tripod mounted Canon EOS 7D and Canon 100-400mm Lens (another super fun lens I was able to borrow at the festival) set at 300mm, ISO 1000, 1/13 sec at f/5.6 and processed with Adobe Lightroom.

Today I am thankful for:

  • A fun date night last night with dinner at Cafe Paris (yummy French food, delicious wines, and a great owner) and then a performance by the San Diego Symphony.
  • An extra hour of sleep – “Falling back” is definitely my preferred time change
  • A clean car (and the guy who washed it) – Seriously, my hubbie has been spoiling me lately! He went out in the (yucky) 90F heat to wash my car!!

What are you thankful for?
