Sutherland Dam | Ramona, CA

Last week my mom came down for a visit. We had a few hours to go play so we headed east toward Ramona, CA. After a stop at the Kountry Kitchen for breakfast, we headed east toward Santa Ysabel and Julian. We didn’t have a destination in mind (other than Julian Apple Pie & coffee for lunch). We noticed a sign for the Sutherland Reservoir and decided to check it out.
The lake is currently closed and inaccessible (unless you want to hike a bit past no trespassing signs). However, the view from the road above was great. Water levels are exceedingly low due to the California drought making the architecture of the dam quite a sight to see.
This little excursion with my mom was a real treat on many levels. In addition to spending time with one of my favorite people, I got to get out, explore, and take a make a few pictures – something I haven’t been able to do much of lately.
PCS (Permanent Change of Station – aka moving) craziness has consumed my life. Between selling our condo in Santee, CA and working on buying a condo in Chesapeake, VA, getting ready for movers to come (now a mere 10 days away), and preparing for a cross-country drive with a cat…its no wonder I haven’t had much time for photography.
On top of the moving chaos, my grandpa passed away peacefully last week. I’m heartbroken.
So…one thing at a time – one foot in front of the other. Everything will work out. Things will come together as they are supposed to. Please send me your love and strength as we get through this challenging chapter. I hope to find whatever my new normal is early in 2016 and get back to making photos and writing regularly.
