Old Point Comfort Lighthouse is the Cutest Pharos I’ve Ever Seen!

Pharos = Lighthouse
You might be wondering what “pharos” means. Thanks to synonym.com I found that it is another word for lighthouse. According to dictionary.com the definition is:
- a small peninsula in Egypt, near Alexandria: site of ancient lighthouse built by Ptolemy
- the lighthouse on this peninsula
- any lighthouse or beacon to direct sailors
Writing for this blog has a way of expanding my vocabulary! I wasn’t familiar with that word until today.
Old Point Comfort Lighthouse
Anyhow, now that we have our vocabulary lesson out of the way…I LOVE this little lighthouse. It is located just outside Fort Monroe in Hampton, VA. It is the second oldest light in the Chesapeake Bay (constructed in 1803) and the oldest still in use.
The turquoise window frames and red top are perfect. (If you’ve ever been to my home you’ll know that I have a fondness for both colors.)
I wanted to put this adorable lighthouse in my pocket and take it home!
Capture & Processing Notes
All photos in this series were shot handheld with my Canon 6D and 16-35mm lens. Processing was done in Lightroom and On1 Photo 10 (available right now for just $49.99!!)
