Round-Trip Editing with Adobe Camera Raw and Mylio Photos

If you’re organizing your photo library in Mylio Photos but still want the editing power of Adobe tools (like Lightroom), you can absolutely have both. This post walks you through a clean, non-destructive Mylio Photos Adobe Camera Raw workflow that lets you send your photos from Mylio Photos to Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) in Photoshop, apply powerful edits, and save those changes right back to Mylio Photos—without disrupting your file structure or losing track of originals.
This method is perfect if you’ve transitioned away from Lightroom but still love Adobe’s editing tools. It’s also great for photographers who want to stay organized across devices without sacrificing editing quality.
Why Use Adobe Camera Raw Instead of Lightroom?
Adobe Camera Raw is the editing engine that powers Lightroom, but it’s accessible through Photoshop as a standalone interface. If you’re already using Photoshop for retouching or composites, editing RAW files in ACR feels natural—and it often gives you access to new features via Technology Previews before they’re rolled out to Lightroom.
What it doesn’t do is manage your files or organize your library—and that’s where Mylio Photos shines.
Step 1: Prep Adobe Camera Raw for Use with Mylio
Before sending files from Mylio Photos to ACR, you’ll want to ensure it is configured to play nicely—especially when it comes to file handling and metadata.
Update Camera Raw Preferences

- Open Photoshop
- macOS: Go to
Photoshop > Settings > Camera Raw - Windows: Go to
Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw
- macOS: Go to
- In the File Handling section, change the following:
- Sidecars: Set to Always use sidecar XMP files
- JPEG/HEIC Handling: Set to Automatically open all supported JPEG and HEICs
- TIFF Handling: Set to Automatically open TIFFs with settings
- Click OK to save and exit.

Step 2: Open Photos from Mylio in Photoshop
Now you’re ready to begin editing.

- In Mylio Photos, select one or more images.
- Go to the Photo menu and choose Open With > Photoshop.
- Choose Edit Original and check Prefer RAW file if available, then click Continue.

The image(s) will open directly in Adobe Camera Raw.
Step 3: Edit Your Photo in ACR

Use all your favorite ACR tools—masks, AI adjustments, profiles, you name it. Once you’re finished editing:
- Click the Export icon in the upper-right corner.
- Choose from your saved Export Presets (instructions below).
- Click Save, then Done to return to Mylio Photos.
Your edited photo will now appear in your Mylio Photos Library.
⏳ Note: It may take a few seconds for Mylio to rescan the folder and show the new version.
Step 4: Build a Mylio Photos Adobe Camera Raw Workflow with Export Presets
Presets make it easy to save your edited files in a way that Mylio Photos recognizes and organizes automatically. You can choose whether to stack edits with the original or save them side-by-side.
Here are four presets I use regularly—with full instructions to set each one up.
Mylio Display TIFF (Stacks with Original)
Use this for high-quality edits you want stacked with the original.

- After editing, click Export.
- Set the following:
- Save To: Same location
- File Naming: Document Name +
_display - Format: TIFF
- Compression: None
- Color Space: Adobe RGB (1998)
- Bit Depth: 16 Bits/Channel
- Metadata: All
- At the top, click the preset dropdown menu and choose Save Custom Preset As…, name it Mylio Display TIFF, and click OK.

Mylio Display JPEG (Stacks with Original)
Perfect for lightweight, view-only versions of your edits.

Same steps as above, but:
- Format: JPEG
- Quality: 12
- Bit Depth: 16 Bits/Channel
- Save as Mylio Display JPEG.
TIFF next to Original (Unstacked)
Use this when you want to compare your edit with the original in Mylio’s grid.

- File Naming: Just Document Name (no
_display) - Format: TIFF
- All other settings remain the same.
- Save as TIFF next to Original.
JPEG next to Original (Unstacked)

Same as above, but for JPEG exports. Save as JPEG next to Original.
Why This Workflow Works
- Mylio Photos handles the organization and keeps your originals safe.
- Adobe Camera Raw delivers powerful editing tools, AI enhancements, and pro-level color control.
- Presets save time, help you stay consistent, and integrate seamlessly into your file system.
Whether you’re editing fine art, client work, or just enhancing your travel photos, this workflow keeps your creative process fast, flexible, and organized.
