March 2025 Month In Review

March was a whirlwind—in the best way! From back-to-back conferences to diving into new tools and tech, I packed a lot into this month. Here’s a peek at what I’ve been working on, what inspired me, and a few photography finds you might enjoy.

Words That Inspire

“Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again.”

– Henri Cartier-Bresson

What I Photographed

March gave me so many opportunities to get behind the camera—and not just at golden hour! I managed to squeeze in a mix of road trip stops, event shoots, and even a few local favorites. Here’s where my lens took me this month:

• Lake Dolores Waterpark – If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you already know I have a soft spot for abandoned places. Lake Dolores was hauntingly beautiful. I shared a few favorite shots and the story behind them in this post.

• Seven Magic Mountains – On the drive home from Vegas, I couldn’t resist pausing to photograph these brightly colored boulders stacked in the desert. Here’s the full post if you missed it!

• Carlsbad Flower Fields – We were a little early this year, and only the farthest section (yep, the one way out there) was blooming. But the trek was worth it—those vibrant ranunculus are always a joy to photograph.

• Portraiture at WPPI – I signed up for a FUJIFILM Photowalk and it ended up being one of my favorite parts of WPPI. The session was led by the super-talented Allison Conklin, and we were loaned medium format gear to shoot with—dreamy, right? Our model, Aphrodite, lived up to her name in every frame.

• Temple Square in Salt Lake City—After RootsTech wrapped, I spent an afternoon wandering around downtown SLC. Temple Square was under major construction, but it was nice to slow down and unwind after three days on the trade show floor.

• La Jolla Sunset Long Exposures – I caught a couple of those magical, pastel-soaked evenings this month and headed to the coast for some long exposure magic. I never get tired of those soft waves and golden light.

• Coronado with PhotowalksTV – I wrapped up the month with a fun photo adventure on Coronado Island alongside Jefferson Graham from PhotowalksTV.com. Great company, gorgeous views, and a reminder of why I love living near the coast.

What I’m Listening To

• The Goal Digger Podcast – Jenna Kutcher always has inspiring insights for creative entrepreneurs.

• Behind the Shot with Steve Brazill – Especially loved the episode on Light Painting Abandoned Places, which happened to play as I was leaving Lake Dolores Waterpark. Total serendipity.

Gear Talk

I spent most of the month shooting with the FUJIFILM X-M5 and GFX systems—both on loan. It was hard to part with them! The image quality, dynamic range, and creative possibilities were chef’s kiss.

A new announcement that has me excited? The GFX100RF—a fixed-lens medium format camera revealed at WPPI. I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Also, major shoutout to Peak Design. Their Outdoor Backpack has quickly become my go-to for travel and conferences. Even when loaded down with camera gear and a laptop, it remained the most comfortable camera bag I’ve used. Pairing it with the small tech pouch made it easy to keep things like memory cards and spare batteries organized—something the backpack itself lacks.

And for post-processing? I’m loving Radiant Photo 2. The core app is solid, but the real magic is in the add-on Workflows. They’ve helped me get my photos screen- and print-ready with less fuss and better results.

New Tools I’m Loving

Over the past few months I’ve been chipping away at migrating my photography portfolio to SlickPic. I’ve been genuinely impressed with how easy and intuitive the platform is to work with. It’s built specifically for photographers, with thoughtful tools that go beyond just displaying pretty pictures. It’s not yet linked from my main site, but it’s live—and I’d love your feedback! SlickPic makes it super easy to organize and showcase my work professionally without the need to code. Visit https://portfolio.angelaandrieux.com and let me know what you think in the comments below.

Two features that have really stood out:

• MagicFill AI – I’ve used this extensively while building out my new portfolio. It uses AI to generate SEO-friendly titles, descriptions, and keywords for each photo—saving tons of time and helping my images get discovered.

• Copyright Helper – SlickPic’s built-in tool for registering images with the U.S. Copyright Office is a game changer. If you’re licensing your work or just want to protect it, this feature makes the process fast and painless.

More updates to come as I continue building out my portfolio, but so far, I’m loving the experience.

What I Worked On

Conference Season: RootsTech & WPPI

RootsTech was all about family history. I represented Mylio Photos, chatted with incredible people passionate about preserving their family legacies, and even took the stage for my session: Organizing Your Family History.

Then came WPPI—equal parts networking, education, and inspiration. I soaked up knowledge from portrait pros and reconnected with friends in the industry. My creative battery is fully recharged.

Fresh Brews from Mylio Photos

If you haven’t tuned in yet, I host the Mylio Photos Coffee Break. These are live, 20-minute sessions where I share quick tips, tutorials, and workflow advice to help you make the most of your photo library. I go live (almost) every Friday at community.mylio.com/events, and it’s a great space to ask questions, connect with other photo lovers, and learn something new.

Here’s what I covered in March:

Photography Tip of the Month

Embrace the Journey. Don’t get so focused on the destination that you miss the gems along the way. Some of the best photo ops happen when you take an unexpected detour. Apps like Roadtrippers can help you find quirky, off-the-beaten-path spots that are perfect for a quick photo stop—even if it’s not golden hour. Be present. Make the memory.
