Scripps Pier in La Jolla with sunset sunburst and spots on my lens from sea spray

Do you ever make a mistake, and then make it again…and again? One of my mistakes is forgetting to frequently wipe off my lens when I am shooting at the edge of the water. Sea spray can ruin an otherwise awesome shot!

This is my “clean your lens, dummy” shot from the otherwise glorious evening I spent in La Jolla at the Scripps Pier:

Scripps Pier in La Jolla with sunset sunburst and spots on my lens from sea spray

Notice all of the little bokeh-ish circles around the rays of sun? SEA SPRAY!!! The more I worked with this image (lightening up the shadows, pulling out detail in the water & pier) the more evident those evil little circles became.

So, the moral of the story is…CLEAN YOUR LENS!!

The sad part is I DID clean my lens that evening. Apparently , I just didn’t do it enough. Lesson learned…I hope.
