Horses on the Beach | Morro Bay, CA

One of the awesome things I got to do on my last trip to CA was photograph horses on the beach with Rick Sammon & Hal Schmitt. They were holding a workshop that my mom was attending and they graciously let me tag along for bits and pieces of the workshop.
Freedom From the Carousel
I had attended a similar workshop/photo shoot with Rick and Hal during the California Photo Festival in 2011. During that shoot we had a glorious sunset to work with. This time, the weather was cool and gray – but that didn’t stop us from capturing some great photographs!
One of the common goals when photographing horses running is to capture the horse with all four feet off of the ground. They look like carousel horses that have been freed!
I also tried my hand at panning…and was kind of successful. It was tough to keep the horse and/or the rider somewhat in focus – this was the one that came out best:
I thoroughly enjoyed my time out on the beach with Rick, Hal, my mom and all of the workshop participants. Thanks for letting me tag along!
