Forgotten Glory | Abandoned Spiral Staircase | Pismo Beach, CA

I grew up on the central coast, and visit my family there often. However, until recently, I didn’t even know this structure existed! I’m fascinated by old, abandoned structures and the details, textures, and stories they possess. So when I found photos of this abandoned spiral staircase my imagination was captivated and I had to find and photograph it myself!
I want to go back to this place again, and find a better vantage point (and possibly take along a wider angle lens)…but until then, here are the photos I took of the abandoned spiral staircase in Pismo Beach on my recent vacation:

3-exposure, auto-bracketed HDR at f/16 – processed in Lightroom, Photomatix Pro, and Tonality Pro

I’ve been having a blast playing with the brand new Tonality Pro by Macphun! Its a black & white conversion tool, but as you can tell from the photos above it has some awesome toning capabilities. For these photos I started out with the “Forgotten Glory” preset and then added a few tweaks to make it my own. The preset was also the inspiration for this post’s title. I think it captures the mood of this intriguing place perfectly.
Stayed tuned for the next installment of my vacation photos: wine tasting in the Napa Valley!
