USS Sterett DDG 104 Departing for Deployment August 2014

Friday was a really tough day. I watched the USS Sterett (DDG-104), with my husband on board, pull away from the pier and out of the bay for a deployment that we expect will last for the better part of a year. My heart hurts as my other half moves farther and farther away.

I was fortunate that my mom was there on the pier with me. I’m so glad she was there to support us both on that difficult day. I’m also fortunate to have a lot of family and friends close by. I know that we planned well and that I have a terrific support system in place. It will be okay and we wil get through this.

Now that he’s gone I’m trying to find my footing, and am searching for my new “normal”. To set my mood in the right direction I downloaded some new music this morning: YES! by Jason Mraz and Get Happy by Pink Martini. Jason Mraz was playing on my computer as I edited the photos below and wrote this post.

There are still tears that pop out unexpectedly now and then…but that is to be expected. One day at a time…and each day brings us closer to homecoming!
