Sunset Cliffs in Black and White | San Diego, CA

How many years have I lived in San Diego? Lets see…I think it was about three years before Italy, and its been nearly three years since we moved back to the States…so six years. How is it that in six years I just visited Sunset Cliffs for the first time!?

This beautiful stretch of coastline lies between Ocean Beach and Point Loma – areas I don’t often go to because the traffic can be hellish. BUT, I’m realizing that these areas hold many treasures and are totally worth the effort. (Though I would recommend avoiding them during the high points of summer and warm sunny weekends unless you like sitting in traffic and taking a couple of hours to find parking.)

Last week Les & I spent a delightful date night exploring some of the Sunset Cliffs area. The light was positively spectacular and the tide was out a ways, though on its way back in. My hubbie had his camera along too, so we snapped photos for awhile and then sat on the rocks and watched the sun set.

The thing I REALLY love about the next image is that you can see all the way to La Jolla!

As you can see from the photos above I’m continuing to work with long exposures, and I’m learning more each time i practice this technique. I love the way a few seconds can smooth out water, giving it an almost cotton candy texture.

All photographs above were captured with my Induro AKB1 Tripod mounted Canon 7D and Canon 24-105 L Lens. Processing was done in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 and Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.
