The Duomo of San Giorgio | Ragusa Ibla

The Duomo of San Giorgio is the pinnacle in Ragusa Ibla. It stands at the top of a hill, and majestically towers the rest of the city.

I captured this photograph back in 2009 when I lived in Sicily. It was a decent snapshot and was safely stored in my archives. Today, I decided to work on it, using the technology I now have at my fingertips, to reimagine the scene that I might hope to photograph if I were to visit again today.
The Process
Here is where I started:

I began by making a handful of adjustments in Lightroom.
- Adjust White Balance
- Auto Tone
- Lens Corrections
- Auto Transform
I then zoomed in and noticed that the image wasn’t perfectly in focus. Luckily, the technology in Topaz Sharpen AI was up to the task and was able to greatly improve the overall sharpness.

Next, I loaded the photograph into Luminar 4 to replace the sky and convert it to black and white. If you’d like to see that part of the process I invite you to join the Skylum Photography Facebook Group (I’m one of the primary admins of the group) and watch my video tutorial, which was recorded live.
This was the result:

I really love how the photograph turned out…and now it has a place in both my archives AND my portfolio. If you’re interested in ordering a print, click here.
