“When life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade…and try to find someone whose life has given them vodka, and have a party.” Ron White

Sometimes unexpected weather makes for interesting photos – such was the case when I went out a couple of weeks ago to shoot the super moon (see this blog post for the whole story). That evening provided some fascinating cloud formations and interesting patterns and textures in the waters of Port San Luis Harbor near Avila Beach, CA.

Notice the wispy clouds against the horizon that are more reminiscent of Fall and Winter than of early Summer. Another neat feature in this photo is the current – yes, you can see the current in the water! That curve heading out from the edge of the pier is the movement of the water.  I love the curves and lines nature provided that evening! This image was captured handheld with my Canon EOS 7D and Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens. I processed the image using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, Nik Dfine 2, and Nik Sharpener Pro 3. (1/100 sec at f/8 ISO 100)

This image shows the current a bit better. I love how the graceful curves lead the eye into the photo! This image was captured handheld with my Canon EOS 7D and Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens. The Beowulf

This photo shows more of the awesome cloud formations. The wisps along the horizon were so cool! This image was captured handheld with my Canon EOS 7D and Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens. I processed the image using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, Nik Dfine 2, and Nik Sharpener Pro 3. (1/125 sec at f/7.1 ISO 100)

So, the moral to today’s story – when life gives you photography lemons (aka clouds on the night you wanted to watch the moon rise) look around – there is likely something else really cool you can capture, you just might have to be a bit more creative…and that is a good thing.
