There is a pedestrian bridge in my hometown that passes over the tracks near the train station. I’ve admired the Jennifer Street Bridge for years, but never had a reason to go up and across. On my last visit to San Luis Obispo, whilst out walking with my mom and our cameras, we decided to check it out. As we climbed I admired the details of the architecture, the dramatic shadows cast by overhead sun, and a great view of my beautiful San Luis Obispo.
Photographing the Jennifer Street Bridge
That particular day I was armed simply with my Canon 6D and nifty fifty. As I snapped photos of the Jennifer Street Bridge I had monochrome and abstract on my mind. The design of this bridge is anything but simple, and I wanted to showcase the detail.
I ended up with two shots I really like:
I love the symmetry and leading lines of this structure. It made a stunning photographic subject, don’t you think? Both of these photos were shot handheld with my Canon 6D and 50mm f/1.8 lens and processed in Lightroom.
Breakfast Near the Jennifer Street Bridge
Just before setting out to walk around the train depot, mom and I had breakfast at one of my favorite SLO restaurants – Bon Temps Creole Cafe. Its another one of my must-eat places in my hometown. Normally I get the Fried Green Tomato Benedict (so good) but on this particular occasion they had a Salmon Benedict special that I split with my mom. It was outstanding. Of course we ordered a side of Fried Green Tomatoes, too. My mouth is watering just thinking about that breakfast! If you find yourself in SLO and wanting a good meal near the train station, check out Bon Temps!
