Chesapeake Bay Bridge Sunset

There is a small section of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge with a trestle. Each time I’ve passed over this section I’ve wanted to photograph it, but the area where it attaches to land is part of a nature reserve and there is no access, except, perhaps by boat.

On our way home from Cape Charles a couple of weekends ago I persuaded my husband to pull off at a vista point at the southernmost tip of Virginia’s Eastern Shore. From there, albeit from a distance, I had my opportunity to shoot the trestle section of the bridge. Bonus points that we happened to catch it at sunset!

The sky was overcast, but there was a break in the clouds at the horizon, perfectly silhouetting the bridge with a beautiful, colorful backdrop.

The photo above is a single exposure captured with my tripod mounted Canon 6D and 24-105 lens. Processing was done in Lightroom.

The vista point also has several telescopes for checking out the bridge, passing ships, and wildlife. I photograph them for their “faces”.

The photo above is a 5-exposure HDR captured with my tripod mounted Canon 6D and 24-105 lens. Processing was done in Lightroom and Aurora HDR.

As you can see, the view from this vista point is lovely. I’ll definitely stop there again to take in the view.
